Societies and Committees

Societies of The AusIMM are comprised of members with expertise in a particular discipline or a strong interest in a policy issue. Members meet regularly via teleconference to provide guidance to The AusIMM and work on relevant projects.

    • The AusIMM Metallurgical Society
      The role of the Met Soc is to meet the professional needs of AusIMM members whose field of interest and profession is Metallurgy and to promote their profile in the community generally.

    • The AusIMM Mining Society
      The newly restarted Mining Society aims to represent the mining engineering profession within the AusIMM.

    • The Consultants Society of The AusIMM (MICA)
      The Consultants Society of The AusIMM is a dedicated society for those professionals employed, operating or interested in the area of mineral industry consulting and was created following the re-affiliation of The Mineral Industry Consultants Association (MICA) with The AusIMM.

    • The AusIMM Geoscience Society
      The aim of the Geoscience Society is to represent the professional needs of AusIMM members who have an interest in geoscience, and to promote the geosciences through Central Services and the Branch structure, among our peers and to the general community.

    • Emerging and Strategic Issues Committee (ESIC)
      The Emerging and Strategic Issues Committee (ESIC) is a cross-disciplinary group of AusIMM members formulating policy responses to emerging issues affecting the minerals sector.

    • Women in Mining Networking Group (WIMnet)
      The WIMnet aims to promote attraction and retention of women in the mining industry and to encourage membership and active participation of women in The AusIMM and WIMnet Activities. Membership is open to both men and women.

    • Health and Safety Committee
      The Health and Safety Committee is committed to investigating and promoting safety in all its forms and supporting the safety education, training, assessment and preparedness of members of The AusIMM.

    • The AusIMM Sustainability Committee
      The AusIMM Sustainability Committee was formed in April 2009, and aims to provide a balanced, informed voice which supports professionals in the minerals sector in sustainability related issues. 

    • Heritage
      The Heritage Committee of The AusIMM aims to foster knowledge about the heritage of the minerals industry among members and the public and to identify and encourage conservation of significant sites, documents and objects.

    • The AusIMM Special Interest Group - China
      The SIG China operates in the same way as other AusIMM societies, however the group is based upon interest rather than profession or technical discipline. In this way, the SIG China is comprised of mining engineers, geologists, metallurgists, investors, service providers and others whose interest is in the emerging opportunities within the minerals industry in China. The group acts as a point of reference for members considering employment or investment opportunities in that continent; act as a source of networking and contact facilitation; and address or support issues of relevance to members operating in, or undertaking business with, China.
