Fellow, Member and Associates
The direct and immediate benefits to Fellows, Members and Associates are related to career enhancement. Conferences and publications keep you abreast of technical and administrative developments and are offered to members at discounted rates. Equally the networking with your peers at branch meetings or conferences maintains an awareness of opportunities and developments within the industry; as well as fostering the camaraderie that we all value so much and providing a broader outlook through discussions with members from other vocations.
Less tangible but equally important is your ability to make a contribution to the status and development of your chosen profession and to the industry as a whole.
Student Members
Student membership is aimed at undergraduates taking their first tertiary degree in a technical discipline relevant to the minerals industry.
The great value of Student membership is being given the opportunity to meet and mix with minerals industry professionals who can provide guidance and assistance about career paths and opportunities. These chances occur in an informal atmosphere at Branch events and at a wide range of conferences. Furthermore, several Branches have formal mentoring schemes in place under which Student members receive guidance from designated professionals working in the industry.
Benefits available to Student members include:
- scholarships and bursaries;
- student prizes and awards;
- meeting industry professionals;
- meeting other students and
participation in AusIMM Student Chapters;
- access to a mentor;
- meeting a future employer;
- discounted membership subscriptions;
- discounted publication and conference
registration fees;
- assistance with obtaining vacation
employment; and
- graduate program development.
For further information on this grade of membership see Students & Student Chapters webpage.
Graduates
Graduates (also known as New Professionals) are the immediate future of The AusIMM and the Minerals Industry. As such, The AusIMM offers a number of benefits available to Graduate members including:
- employment assistance;
- meeting other industry professionals;
- meeting other new professionals;
- access to AusIMM publications and
events at discounted rates;
- guidance for their future careers
covering matters such as ethics and industry best practice;
- potential to receive awards to
recognise excellence;
- the chance to voice their opinions
through The AusIMM New Professionals Committee;
- an introduction to networking and
fellowship; and,
- an opportunity to contribute to an increasingly strong professional body for the minerals industry.
For further information on this grade of membership see Graduates & New Professionals webpage.
Company Members
The direct benefits you receive are the right to send a delegate to conferences and seminars at the discounted rates offered to members and the right to receive AusIMM publications and to purchase books and monographs at a discounted rate for the company's library. This allows you to remain abreast of technological developments in your industry thus giving you a competitive edge at reduced rates.
The discounted rates offered to company members for publications and conferences are not unlimited. They are intended to provide two registrants per company member; they do not provide an umbrella under which every member of your company can benefit without joining. It does not entitle employees who are non members of The AusIMM to sign reports as members under the company membership banner.
The indirect benefits for a company member are even greater. They include:
- The opportunity to help shape the regulatory environment. Increasingly, The AusIMM is being asked to provide expertise for statutory or regulatory bodies shaping policies for the minerals industry.
- Education Programs. The AusIMM assists in the training of new graduates, both through its extensive scholarships, through its fostering of student membership attendance at conferences and by liaising with academic institutions. Your support of The AusIMM assures a supply of quality graduates to the industry.
- Shaping the public and political perceptions of our industry. As a learned, professional body, The AusIMM is able to play a special role in presenting our industry as responsible. We are perceived as a separate voice from the companies and their industry organisations.
